Easy Mother's day gift

Here is a super simple, fairly inexpensive gift idea you can use for a mother's day idea with your cubs.

You will need to take a picture of each of your boys (I think it would be fun to take them in their uniform) Then ask each of your boys to answer these simple questions...

My mom loves...

She is good at...

My favorite thing to do with my mom is...

I love my mom because...

Or you can use your own questions.

Then use a photo editing software to add the questions and answers to the picture. I used photoshop, but if you don't have photoshop or any other photo editing program you can use a free service called PicMonkey, you can find it HERE. There is no software you have to download and you can edit and add text to your photos and it is pretty simple to use.

Have your pictures printed in your desired size-I chose 4x6 because it was cheapest to print at Walgreens and I was on a time schedule. If I was not short on time, I would have done a 5x7 and had them done at Costco...They are .72 cents for a 5x7 versus 2.49 at Walgreens.

Find a frame from the dollar store, add your picture and have the boys wrap it up or just tie a bow around it and you have a personalized keepsake for mom.

Mother's Day Thumb Print Key Chain

Here's a quick tutorial on how to make these fun thumbprint key chains. 

You will need the following items:

• parchment or wax paper
• rolling pin
• sculpey clay
• skewer or sucker stick
• key ring
• exacto knife or cookie cutter(not pictured)
• ink pad(optional and also not pictured.)

Gather all of your supplies

 Start out by laying out your parchment paper and breaking off a section of clay. Fold paper over top of clay and use rolling pin to roll out.

Roll to desired thickness, you do not want it to thin as it will break, but also not to thick or you will have a hard time putting the ring on it.

I forgot to take pictures of the next few steps, but they don't really require a picture.

Next cut clay into shape of choice using a cookie cutter or exacto knife.

Once you have your shape cut, press the child's thumb print down into the center of your shape.

Or if you want you can ink their thumb and then press it into the clay

Next make a hole in the corner of your shape by using your skewer or sucker stick.

Bake on paper for 15 minutes on 275° when done let cool and add your key ring. You can use a sharpie on the back and add a name and date on it.

All about mom coasters

Here is a simple, inexpensive,usable, but cute project you can have your scouts make for mom, or grandma for Mother's Day

Materials need

• 4-8-4.5" x 4.5" tiles(you can use any amount you prefer. these can be found at any hardware store for between .16-.25cents
• Windex
• paper towel
• Modge Podge
• foam brush
• felt(which I forgot in the picture)
• Printable from  HERE or you can make your own. 

Step 1: Start by cleaning/drying each tile with windex

Step 2: Have your child answer the questions on each square and or draw a picture, use the blank one for a picture of the child. (I would have had them color their pictures or use markers to write their answers so there is a little more color to them)

Step 3:Cut out each of the squares

Step 4: apply a thin coat of modge podge on the back of one of the papers(it is kind of hard to see in the picture) and apply to the center of the tile(picture below), I had the after thought of adding a piece of scrapbook paper to the tile first before adding the question(I would cut mine as a 4x4 square).

Step 5: Once tile is completely dry apply a thin coat of modge podge on top of the tile over the paper, then let dry. 

Step 6: Repeat step 5 

Repeat this process with each tile until you are done

Step 6: Cut a 4"x4" square out of felt and hot glue onto the bottom of each tile this way there is no worries of the tiles scratching the surface.(Using white felt makes it hard to see, sorry)

Tie all of the tiles together with a cute ribbon and you have a cute mother's day gift.
